Hemmingway was suffering a great deal of physical health problems as well as mental. He had gotten into multiple injuries in Cuba, suffering from loneliness and depression as well as coping with liver disease, a result of his excessive drinking problem. He was unable to keep atop of all the problems he was going through, he was not even able to go in person to receive his Noble Peace Prize in 1954.
